Common-sense, low-cost sunblock for sure (:

non nano zinc when dealing with reflective surfaces like water + snow. But build the solar callus from Spring, avoid blue light on your skin at night after sun exposure. Remember our skin has clock genes that orchestrate many of the processes involved in overnight repair, including DNA repair, cell renewal, and maintenance of the skin barrier and screens hijack this system.

Thank you Light Human! Great insights. How long have you been building your callus?

The Light Human's avatar

A good 5 years but I did live in Costa Rica for 5 years and my kids are half Iranian so suncream has never need to really feature. I had third degree burns on my chest after a stunt accident and I’ve managed to heal most of it up whilst not using suncream - just a bit of non nano zinc when on the water …

Wow what an incredible story! Have you heard of chaparral before?

The Light Human's avatar

Yes! I’m a medical herbalist - you mean for burns?

Roman S Shapoval's avatar

Nice! No just in general, wondered if you heard of it. Have you used it for sunburn a lot?

i was surprised to hear about the intense bug problem in AZ since it is so dry. Hawaii (big island) with it's HEAVY rainfall is the worst i have ever experienced as far as bugs. pretty unbelievable, unless someone is doing lots of chemical remediation (poisoning the insects).

sorry to be long-winded, but a little more info re Masaru Emoto's work (from wikipedia), including the use of UV light and certain EMF waves to eliminate pollution [and negativity?] from water.

'Emoto claimed that water was a "blueprint for our reality" and that emotional "energies" and "vibrations" could change its physical structure. His water crystal experiments consisted of exposing water in glasses to various words, pictures, or music, then freezing it and examining the ice crystals' aesthetic properties with microscopic photography.

"Emoto held that water from a mountain stream, when frozen, showed structures of beautifully shaped geometric designs; but that water from polluted sources created distorted, randomly formed ice structures.

"He held that these changes could be eliminated by exposing water to ultraviolet light or certain electromagnetic waves and that polluted water could also be cleaned through prayer and positive visualization".

wonderful, esp the part about Masaru Emoto's demonstration of how ice crystals can reveal the beneficial or detrimental structuring of water, and how our thoughts, intentions and vibrations affect water as well as everything else we are near. a friend had Emoto's book with the same beautiful (and some disturbing) water crystal photos Rob showed. i gazed at it intensely for many weeks and remember each of the lovely crystals shown here as beautiful friends. also she had some musical albums (created by Emoto) which play classical compositions and denote the powerful vibrations and ice crystals each one creates. truly inspirational and an important reminder to guard our thoughts and what we allow to influence us - being as we are beings composed primarily of very impressionable water. i try to remember this and therefore try to curate - or avoid - much of the negativity on the internet. and i put written words including love underneath my water crock.

Nice podcast on chaparral. I'd never really heard anything of it's health benefits before.

My entire life, my fair skin would burn very easily (yes I was a techy so not much outdoor time). For the past twenty years, as I've studied nutrition and supplemented a lot, my skin is **far** more tolerant of sunshine. I still use natural shade (trees) and clothing, but I also feel that starting in the winter going out and exposing my skin to sunshine has helped it to be prepared for summer.

Hey Roman, there is no such thing as a nuke

See the 2nd section on Hiroshima here

Could be, I wouldn't be surprised, but the important point I want to make is that chaparral is great at absorbing all forms of EMF.

Hiroshima was firebombed, all concrete buildings and bridges were left standing, many with no blemishes, people inside most all lived. Tree trunks and many trees still standing. Same as Tokyo and 67 other firebombed cities, incl Nagasaki. They all look exactly the same.

my dad, in the navy at the end of WWII, landed in Nagasaki 3 days after the "fat man" plutonian bomb was allegedly dropped (it was much bigger and more complex than the "little boy" uranium-235 supposedly dropped on Hiroshima). i guess he was part of the "occupation" but i don't know how long he was there. He lived to be 99, was very vital, energetic, in better health than most people and did not die of cancer.

I know, right?! I would buy gallons of a natural sunscreen with that scent.

{laugh} When I was young I liked the smell of gasoline! (not healthy)

Now I'm a major fan of coconut.

A question for the ages! Why?

Why do we like the smell of gas?
