How I went from chronically fatigued to turbocharged

Podcast Preview: The Power of Circadian Fitness

Fitness is the ability to dance - to the rhythm of life.

Twenty years ago, I used to be what many would call a meathead. I’d take all kinds of supplements, and would be in the gym before the sunrise.

Although I was building muscle, I was also slowly destroying my body. I’d be gargling down protein powders with all sorts of additives, and spending money on supplements I didn’t need.

Many of my workouts were indoors, which unknown to me at the time was impairing optimal muscle recovery due to a blue-light toxic environment. I’d party on the weekends, and try to “catch up” on sleep during the week.

Around the age of twenty-two, this lifestyle had caught up with me. I remember sitting by my best friend’s pool one hot summer afternoon, barely being able to move my arms because my shoulders were so stiff.

I would suffer through my thirties, eventually finding a better route than the Jersey Shore boardwalk boulevard of broken dreamers.

The yellow brick road that kept calling me back was the same one I had always been on. Ever since I was a child, I would run and bike for hours under the Sun, as many children used to, and not come back until it was dark out.

Rhythm is naturally entrained in us all- and calls us home for supper eventually. Whether we choose to listen is another question.

Our bodies love rhythms, as each of our organs and hormones all function in harmony with light frequencies.

I would eventually learn to trust my regenerative instinct, and discern that my best allies in fitness, apart from worthy gym buddies, weren’t expensive memberships and fancy sneakers, but the Sun and Time itself.

I’d learn that training was all about taking advantage of those tools we often take for granted - like the time we throw away in our day trying to “make it” to the gym, when in reality the gym is all around us, and within us.

We each have a circadian rhythm that runs our metabolism, but must dance in time with its call.
