One solution for the constant use of the nagging cell phone is growing your own food. The distaste for dirt is educated. People can’t distinguish between filfth and dirt. I tell people I grow dirt and the vegetables fruits and nuts then grow them selves the plants get so strong and happy when you pull all the weeds around them. They realize they have been chosen and show their appreciation immediately. Especially when the weeds have been about to flourish and are very close to being in control. I like how say plants are "chosen" and show their appreciation - they are certainly sentient and feel our emotions I believe. I checked a 5G map and there are only a few tiny spots on the east side of town (Aberdeen SD) where I live, nothing near my home. There is a lot more around the Minneapolis / St. Paul metro area but again it seems to be along highways and not in residential areas. This surprises me as my impression was that it was "everywhere".

Hmm, it does and it doesn't in my experience. Technically airplane mode should disable all wireless communication, however I've found that if I just hit airplane mode, and I don't unclick bluetooth and wifi, they look like they are still on when I turn airplane mode back on. Hope that makes sense.
probably because they were never actually off. it seems that most people still think airplane mode is safe. that changed in 2018, at least for iphones, see my further explanation below to jody. we found out because i got terribly blasted when walking with someone out in the country who had told me her cellphone was in airplane mode. i finally, in desperation, asked if she was sure it was in airplane mode, and she got upset, telling me it was a brand-new iphone she had purchased within the week (back in 2018). when i went home my husband looked it up on the internet, and sure enough, apple was bragging about their new OS in their newest phone model in which airplane mode turned off cellular, but left both bluetooth and wifi still on.

even if landlines are no longer available in your home or area, you can get a VOIP voice over internet protocol phone hookup, where any landline-type phone connects directly to the comcast (or whatever) cable signal via a router or modem. In many if not most cases this can be a wireless-free system, using a router without wireless capabilities. i do not use a cellphone AT ALL.
i just use my "landline-style" VOIP phone as mentioned above for those 2FA (2nd factor authentication) temporary codes. if the bank/institution can't deal with that (ie if they demand to text to a cell) then i don't deal with them. ditto with QR codes. i do not comply. (:

What I need is a place (number) for banks and other institutions to send me 'codes'. How does one get around that?

Yes most often banks will say "you have to" for security reasons, but when you push back slightly, there are always work arounds.
