What initially alerted me to their danger was our neighbour, a UK nurse (I live in NZ) ... she said as a trainee nurse in the UK they were told not to heat infants' milk in microwaves as it destroyed the nutrients.

This might be the same article I came across in the late 80s, when I cut the cord and tossed it in the garbage after reading it. It was my mom doing the same that motivated me to research her reasons as to why she did.
Interesting thing, my in-laws had a microwave oven and cooked, heated everything in it that they ate/drank, even water for tea/cocoa. They died at different times at the age of 67 & 68.
My mom lived until 84, and my dad will be 92 in December, still kickin’.
I wonder if the in-laws use of the microwave oven cut their lives short.
Might well be why they did not live as long. You had a smart mom. Mine was the same, only much of hers was her 6th sense. Interesting isn't it how, (as in the case of the UK nursing profession) they didn't warn everybody they were unsafe? I did also see in my research back then that somebody literally tested the microwaved foods for nutrition against non-microwaved. Predictably their damning evidence got shuffled under the rug! Awesome about your parents though. Still kickin at 92 is great... may he live many more years!
My mom’s sixth sense was very strong as well as her sense of her physical body. If anything felt off physically the slightest bit, she knew it wasn’t healthy for her or anyone else. We were both very fortunate to have moms that were so in tune with the invisible side of life, eh Pam?
I read over 10 years ago that microwaves were banned in Russia.
