Roman. My Air Marshal is asking why the sun is more IR in the morning and UV in the afternoon. He's a physicist and a skeptic.

Got a simple explaination? I would assume it has to do with atmosphere filtering, because, what else could it be, but that's where my musings complete.

Hi John! Sorry for the delay. Great question. You know I'm not totally sure, but now I will most certainly find out!

The meat of what I sent Gerald...

It is, as I suspected, due to refraction. Shorter wavelength UV bounces off the atmosphere in the morning but radiates straight down at us as the sun approaches zenith. Search results immediately offer up many articles on this. UV penetrates the skin deeper than IR. Benefits of IR include regulation of Cirdcadian rhythm, it energizes the mitochondria, promotes production of vitamin D, dopamine, seratonin, collagen, and melatonin... Some studies suggest that morning exposure to IR may precondition the skin to defend against potential UV damage later in the day.

*** Photobiomodulation (PBM) exposure to visible and IR-A light which emulates the conditions of natural sunlight in wavelength, intensity, and dosage can be beneficial to the skin. Such light exposure might even pre-condition the skin, preparing it for upcoming (mid-day zenithal) UV insults. ***

UV is responsible for sunburns, skin aging, skin cancer, snow blindness (!), but it also contributes to vitiamin D production.

Will be back tomorrow. Just wanted to reply and say thanks for the thoughtful line of questioning - you've given me more content to think about now ! (; have a great night John. Tell Gerald I need a physicist on my team (:

Turns out Gerald is a nuclear engineer, not a nuclear physist. You don't want him on your team anyway. He asked me what Trudeau had done that was so bad. I started with the WEF, he didn't want to hear about that so I concluded he was too far left/gone and dropped it.

Good morning/ day John! Fyi I wrote an article about the infrared/blue/UV progression during the day. It supports what you cited here about getting infrared first to build our solar callus (tan):

Thanks anyway for your question, it brought me back to my childhood years of never getting an answer to "why is the sky blue". I'll be creating an article just on this topic, so thanks for your inspiration!

Yes, my youngest daughter is like that too. All you can do is try to nudge without pissing them off.

Here's an article I did on skin cancer, UV is quite a fascinating story and a healer, but must be used responsibly: https://romanshapoval.substack.com/p/skincancer

John, thanks for the info, makes sense. However from what I know it's the IR longer wavelength that penetrates deeper into our skin than UV. UV has higher energy, shorter wavelength: https://ar.iiarjournals.org/content/36/3/1345 (scroll down and see Fig 2)

Yes, I got it exactly backwards.

Thanks Roman, I will look too then.

My 78 yo mother has dementia and a recent evaluation report said she has low B-12...and that increased B-12 has been shown to help dementia. my mom never goes out in the sun without being fully dressed and w a hat. I observe that many people and especially old people (yeah I’m old too, lol) never go outside or if they do they are worried about sun exposure so they slather sunscreen or are fully covered. No wonder we have epidemic of dementia, I’m sure lack of sunlight is part of that equation.

Thanks for sharing that Cynthia. Yes B12 is crucial for building our entire nervous system. What is her diet like? I ask b/c I recently read about a study showing smokers who took B12 supplements increased their risk for lung cancer 4x. We need bacteria to help us absorb B12, and this is found in food. When we take supplements this process is broken - leading to an overabundance of antioxidants. Does she eat sardines, clams, oysters? Those, along with beef liver are very high in B12.

Here's another article I did on the benefits of red light for the brain. Neuromelanin / substantia nigra needs red light to stay healthy: https://romanshapoval.substack.com/p/how-winter-sun-can-help-parkinsons

This was awesome! I've long questioned the current narrative about sunlight and skin cancer, and this is one more thing "they don't tell you". Thanks Roman!

National Library of Medicine has a fairly comprehsive general report Wound healing with Electrical Stimulation Technologies: a Review. Good place to start anyways

Can't find the latest test results where 50 - 100% faster healing of wounds & burns was achieved consistently. L

I'll let you know if I succeed.

👍👍Another excellent post. Historical info is always good for a rabbit hole of buried knowledge. Recent research using electricity to heal wounds looks like it will be an extremely effective therapy. Results claimed are significant. Doc from star trek would approve.

Hi Roman & Shapoval,

I want to buy a 7 color photon LED skin rejuvenation facial mask in the hopes of it helping a skin condition I have called Actinic Keratosis. First of all, I am not asking for medical advice, but are these mask safe from the LED light? And if they are what color is the most beneficial? Thank you in advance. I do not know who else to ask. I can not ask my doctor because I do not trust most doctors. I also had basal cell spots on my face in the past. They wanted to cut me open MOHs treatment which is very invasive. I chose to use a natural cure and it worked and it is now gone. No more skin cancer. Anyway, I am asking about these LED masks. Thank you for teaching the world!

Her diet is pretty much SAD. Beef yes, but any kind of seafood, no. I can’t really help her (my dad…it’s complicated!) really just an observation. She’s taking supplements. And yes, I am horrible at taking supplements so food is my “medicine;” thanks for the advice on where to get B-12 from food.

Oh, beef LIVER…no she hates liver!
